when i was younger i remember never waking up to an alarm. in most cases i got up with the sun jumping out of bed, throwing on my sneakers and heading out the door to play outside. as i got older my responsibilities kept getting bigger and my days always seemed to get shorter and shorter. it is easy to get lost in our day-to-day routines, but sometimes a small movement can give you the wake up call you needed to remind you of that kid you used to be.

insert By-Us Co., the creative minds behind valuable initiatives worth talking about. recently By-Us Co launched their latest online campaign @theWhiteshoeproject, focused on bringing back adventure and exploration. the group explains that "it's a project driven by the 'wearer' and the miles that they tread ... white shoe is a canvas that collects stories and experiences." i am so supportive of this simple yet brilliant idea and can't wait to get behind it with my fresh pair of white kicks. to participate just grab your shoes, get out there, get adventurous and curious, and share your experiences through the hashtag #theWhiteshoeproject

have you seen this yet? it's called Projecteo and i'm completely obssessd with it because it's just so dang cute. heck, anything mini size just seems to get me.  basically it's the worlds smallest projector designed specifically to showcase your instagram pics in a unique way. that means, no more saving them to your desktop to think about printing later, or making grand plans to craft some online photobooks, or creating DIY instagram magnets. now you can take your beautiful pictures and make your own miniature 35mm slide film wheels to showcase your snaps. so how does it work?  you start by accessing your instagram account, then pick nine pictures which you upload to Projecteo. once received they are  develop onto a tiny 35mm slide film (very much like one of these, does anyone remember those???). the only other thing you need to do is buy your projector for $25.99, but once you have it you can make as many wheels ($8.99 a wheel) as you want. like i said, i am already all over this idea. i mean, you can just throw it in your pocket and off you go! perhaps this could even open up an innovative way to showcase your brand in a pitch meeting, or a memorable method of presenting quick images of an online portfolio to a possible client. the options really could be endless. apparently the saying is true, good things really do come in small packages (said this short little blogger).

One Special Day

 

close to two months ago I married my husband. he will likely hate that I am posting pictures of him, but he is just so dang cute in a tux that I can't help it. we got engaged on december 22, 2011, and for the better part of a year and a half we took our time to enjoy wedding planning (and you can enjoy it, no matter what anyone will tell you). for those of you who follow me on twitter, instagram and/or know me, you know that i'm a natural born planner. i even make a plan to make plans. as part of my 9-5 job i'm also in charge of event planning , so lists and visual planning boards are very much "my thang". in the wedding industry there is everything you could ever want and more, oh and everything you don't even need that they try and to sell you on. if you are in the midst of planning the best advice I can share is that it's extremely key that you set yourself some guidelines – from day one. for us we agreed early on that each would get to pick one key element that we each felt most important and then ensure that we didn't cut back when it came to those two items. next i created a visual board to help me pull together all my mashed ideas and shape them into one wedding day visual with a colour palette. i have to say as much as it might have seemed nerdy, this little board saved my butt in so many wedding meetings. the  industry is full of visual people so it was much easier to bring out a picture of what you want and what colour you want it to ensure you get the best results. not everyone can read your mind. it still feels crazy to look back on this day and see how much work came together so perfectly – all the planning, appointments and late night diy projects (invites, menu's decorations, etc). now we get to relish all the little things that flew by in a blink of an eye. we also just got our pictures from the very talented jamieson dean and all i can say is they. are. dreamy. (this was my one key thing).

i haven't been one to really have a "hobby" per say, but if you asked me if there is something that interests me that I continue to read up on, well it would be photography. I am by no means a master, because i am 100% self taught. what makes a great picture? well the obvious answer would be composition, lighting, layout and editing. all of which I am still learning and evolving in terms of my skills, but personally great photographs also are ones that capture life's best moment. things you would otherwise miss, things you hope to remember, or things you hope remind you of someone/something/some place.  for years i've toyed with the idea of working harder at this "hobby" and i'm finally giving it a go. if you would like to follow along, or view updates and images you can follow my photography work at L.A.H Photography (http://lauraahydephotography.tumblr.com/).
