happy Canadian Thanksgiving everyone!
or as i call it,  "put on your fat pants, it's Turkey Day!!!"

there is just so dang much to be thankful for,
but most of all, i'm thankful for all of you who take some time to read this little blog.
it may not be the biggest, or the best out there in the big sea of blogs,
but it is my little hobby, my own little creative space to share with the
interwebs in the hopes that some of you find something to get excited about and

it's grown a lot over this last year.
so thank you, thank you and yes, thank you.

Spring is Coming ...

3/11/14

an abundance of wildly colourful adorable tulips in huge bouquets

an abundance of Lillet cocktails sipped on in little cocktail glasses in the sun.

an abundance of market fresh fruit homemade yogurt popsicles.

and satin or silk floral tops, brim hats and mary jane shoes.

it is 8 degrees celsius here today and while we may still have a few weeks left of winter, i know spring is right around the corner, and i cannot contain my excitement for some of these, my favorite spring trends.

What inspires you?

9/11/13

Oomphlove has come a long way in the two years that we've been active! Again, I have to really thank everyone who has followed along and shared your comments, feedback and ideas! I may have celebrated last night with a glass of red wine and homemade apple cake (post to come!) It's been a rollercoaster time personally and professionally, but this year it is only going to get bigger and better, with new improvements to the site, some design changes in the works and new photography skills on the horizon. This little blog was designed to be jumping point to inspire ways for anyone to get back to simple, well-balanced and creative living. During those two years there have been many new ideas that have taken off (cooking skills, tips & tools) and some ideas that perhaps have taken a backseat. So from you, the reader, I would like to know ...

What brings you to Oomph and what would you like to read more about? (you can select more than one option if desired)

I really can't thank you enough for all the positive encouragement over the past two years! I look forward to more of your thoughts and suggestions from this poll and if any of you would like to email me with any additional ideas I would be more than happy to read them! laura.a.hyde(at)gmail.com
xoxo!

Two Whole Years

9/10/13

it has been a whole 2 years since my very first blog post on Oomphlove. this little blog has grown so  much visually and behind the scenes since that day. what started as a small side project to reinspire creative living and to post about things i love, has grown into a dedicated passion and a new reason for continued learning. i can't begin to thank all my loyal followers and daily readers and everyone who's supported me in this growth. hang on to your hats, because we are only getting started. cheers! xoxox

One Special Day

8/10/13

close to two months ago I married my husband. he will likely hate that I am posting pictures of him, but he is just so dang cute in a tux that I can't help it. we got engaged on december 22, 2011, and for the better part of a year and a half we took our time to enjoy wedding planning (and you can enjoy it, no matter what anyone will tell you). for those of you who follow me on twitter, instagram and/or know me, you know that i'm a natural born planner. i even make a plan to make plans. as part of my 9-5 job i'm also in charge of event planning , so lists and visual planning boards are very much "my thang". in the wedding industry there is everything you could ever want and more, oh and everything you don't even need that they try and to sell you on. if you are in the midst of planning the best advice I can share is that it's extremely key that you set yourself some guidelines – from day one. for us we agreed early on that each would get to pick one key element that we each felt most important and then ensure that we didn't cut back when it came to those two items. next i created a visual board to help me pull together all my mashed ideas and shape them into one wedding day visual with a colour palette. i have to say as much as it might have seemed nerdy, this little board saved my butt in so many wedding meetings. the  industry is full of visual people so it was much easier to bring out a picture of what you want and what colour you want it to ensure you get the best results. not everyone can read your mind. it still feels crazy to look back on this day and see how much work came together so perfectly – all the planning, appointments and late night diy projects (invites, menu's decorations, etc). now we get to relish all the little things that flew by in a blink of an eye. we also just got our pictures from the very talented jamieson dean and all i can say is they. are. dreamy. (this was my one key thing).

L-Eat Express

7/9/13

middle picture 1 via  & middle picture 2 via
this past friday my dear friend came into the big city for what we like to call a little "pick me up" day – something everyone should plan a few times a year, at least. we met up mid-afternoon post a fabulous hair appointment for a light vegan lunch and then some David's Tea smelling and vintage clothing shopping.  it. was. bliss.  i adore spending afternoons with her,  catching up on our hectic lives, jobs, family and especially post wedding event gossip. later that afternoon we decided we wanted a place just to sit, put our feet up and have a cold coffee/tea. while in the area of Spadina and Adelaide we happened across a place call L-Eat Express. L-Eat Express is part of the L-Eat Group, which is made up of of L-eat Catering, Paese Ristorante and L-eat Express. Having found this place, I highly recommend it if you want something low key and not pretentious (sometimes hard to find downtown I must admit). i will definitely be going  back to when i'm next in that neck of the woods. for anyone who loves a quiet cafe setting, large rustic country kitchen tables, shiny modern accent decor and freshly made food & drinks (also gluten-free friendly) then this is a place to check out. there was vast selection of warm/cold coffees, other specialty drinks and loose leaf tea selections. additionally they offer well-made sandwiches, lunch specials, fresh salads and even a well-stocked bar and bar fridge should you need a light afternoon "beverage" to cool you down, or start off a long weekend celebration. much to my surprise this express cafe was also stocked ceiling to floor with mason jars of homemade pasta sauce, fridges stocked fresh jams – with flavours like vanilla & peach – grab and go fresh cookie doughs, and even bourbon maple syrup, all for sale. it was a clean eaters cafe dream, let me just tell you. i have to think if the express was this good, i can only image using their catering division for future events. some food for thought perhaps.

Movember Madness

11/2/12

It's officially that time of year once again when the moustaches come out to shine. It's Movember Madness everyone! For anyone who doesn't already know about this rapidly growing event,   it's a time that most men get a little excited about not shaving (and no, it's not playoff hockey related ... not this year anyways...) and allow their inner macho ego to step out while raising funds for men's health issues, specifically prostate cancer research. If you are anyone who knows me and knows me well, you'll already know I love the moustaches. I think they are absolutely hilarious and should be admired on the best of occasionsI mean check out my 30th birthday shindig for example.

To all the non-stache growers out there reading this, let's get ready to show our own support and encourage participation this November. Inspire guys to get involved! Help everyone globally raise not only awareness but funds in an effort to fight nasty cancer. For Mo Sistas, get into it by sporting your own little stache in the form of a key chain, necklace, ring, or even temporary tattoo. There are some great finds on Etsy for items like that. Heck, throw a fundrasing stache party with staches on sticks. Regardless of how you do it, it's a good time to do something that shows we care about our guys and these growing issues that affect them.

So, to all the men out there ... let the games begin.

Autumn Air

10/17/12

There is no season I adore more than fall. The pumpkin smells, velvet scarves, the crisp air, the crunchy sounds and the deep red colours. More than anything this year,  I especially love being in my new house getting to enjoy the season with all the windows opened and the view of trees and sunsets that surrounds it. It's been a great first month of slowly planting some fall flower pots and the little knickknacks finds their place in the home. This past thanksgiving was outstanding and my belly has never been soooo full of turkey feasts, amazing wines and teeny weeny treats. There really is just so much to be thankful for right now. Hope everyone else is enjoying this time of year. Halloween (my favourite holiday!) is just around the corner. xoxox.
