Bottle the Last of Summer - DIY Scrub

9/8/14

not ready for summer to be over yet? make those last summer days linger a little longer with this simple scrub using farm fresh ingredients. shower scrubs are a simple thing you can easily make. they keep your skin soft and keep a little extra coin in your pocket when you make it yourself. this pear and orange mix is one i made this past week. it's smells like summer and the honey mix is heaven on the skin.

what you need:
  • 1 quarter of an orange
  • 1 half of a pear
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp honey
start out by blending your pear so that it creates a soft mixture. next add all your other ingredients listed and stir well together with a spoon. store in an air tight glass jar in your bathroom and try to use within 2-3 max max. I tend to use my homemade scrubs 3-4 times a week, just make sure to rinse well!

helpful hint - if your mix is a little too liquid for your taste add more sugar to thicken it out.

no better way to start the day than feeling fresh out of the shower.
so for an energizing start to your day, try adding fresh eucalyptus. just take the bunch and tie them with twine and wrap and tie around your shower head. when the heat shower water and steam mix with the leaves, it activates their natural oils and creates a refreshing smell.

this is also great for if you feel stuffed up from a cold and want to wake up those nasal passages! simple. easy and green.

Traveller - Time for A Getaway

4/15/14

the countdown is officially on for my much needed and very much anticipated Caribbean cruise! we booked it a few months ago and finally it is just around the corner. I couldn’t be more ready than on a day during a freak snow storm in the city. #comeonspring! I have been on a cruise once before and as someone who finds it difficult to sit still in one place for a very long time, i can't recommend cruising enough. I love knowing that i'll get to see a few various places and most importantly i love  feeling of moving on the water. i'm a pisces, can you blame me? this time next week i'll be slipping a cold pina colada on the beach or boat with these items on my body or on hand.

Vine App

2/4/13

What's the newest rage in social applications? Let me introduce you to Vine App. This latest craze let's you record 6 second video's (in a stop and go spliced style, or full length taping) that is then cross connected to your Twitter account, much like Instagram. So, how do I like it? Meh. I think it's going to be one of those, "not sure he's my kinda cute, but think I could warm up to him slowly" kinda love stories. To be perfectly honest, I'm not 100% sure on what the best reason to use this app is just yet. I can already say that I'm not a fan of the longer than expected wait times for videos to load. However, personally I need to spend time exploring what is it that I want to show people that I can't already share in some creative capacity. Sure I have interesting DIY ideas, clever photography, or useless snip-its to share, but how is this app going to make sharing that better? I've decided to give it a fair shot for a while and see where it takes me. Motto = practice + learn + share. In actual fact, online this Vine app is already spreading like wildfire, so perhaps everyone else has been implementing the same mental motto as well.

Why not give it a shot with me? If you don't already follow me on Twitter at @oomphlove and then join me on Vine @oomphlove. Here is a sample of one of my video's "Colour Me Crazy". Share any video's you make in the comment section!

Helpful Hint - Waxy

Apartment Therapy recently posted from their video section, a One Minute Tip on how to remove that ever annoying and dreaded wax build up from a candle holder. Heaven knows that this issue has driven me personally insane on more than on occasion. Therefore, when I saw this (and actually tried it and it worked), I knew it needed to be shared. Enjoy and hopefully this saves a couple of relationships and restores some love towards using mood lighting.
